Welcome to Restorative Counselling
At Restorative Counselling, all aspects of your well-being are assessed and nurtured through unique services to assist you in feeling more balanced and grounded. "Walk therapy" is a service for those that would prefer to be out in nature, at the beach or elsewhere in the community for individual sessions. Holistic Wellness Plan Here.
Many of us, we feel spiritually drained as a result of being cut off from the natural beauty of the outdoors. This service offers the additional benefit of nurturing yourself in this way while you engage in therapeutic work with your counsellor. Nanaimo has a host of places that are well-suited for this service, and the combination of fresh air and a scenic backdrop provides a great alternative to sitting indoors.
Restorative Counselling (Berube, 2012) is an approach to counselling that seeks to decolonize wellness by combining gold standard clinical therapy with culturally informed teachings from a host of traditional, land-based and ancient wellness teachings. As a theoretical orientation, Restorative Counselling prides itself on being intentionally different from other approaches by providing compassionate, client-led services.. Our model is best described as a relational, culturally and spiritually enriched biopsychosocial model of care that is owned, led and run by a diverse team that have a lived experience of barriers faced for populations that are often under-served or left to struggle alone with mountains of paperwork.
We value strength-based approaches and see the clients as experts in expressing needs and finding solutions that align with their personal values. Restorative Counselling offers clinical practicums and participates in gathering outcome ratings from both individual and group services,
We strive to provide affordable and responsive counselling services to assist you in getting restored, replenished and revitalized.
Our clinicians can assist with anxiety, stress, sleep issues/insomnia, depression, grief/bereavement, intergenerational trauma, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, co-occurring disorders, addictions, domestic abuse, employment issues, crisis situations, religious trauma, PTSD and complex trauma and parenting issues, or parent/teen conflict.
In our efforts to remove barriers to accessing services, we offer evening sessions in order to make counselling accessible to individuals that are not available during regular business hours. Special services also include DBT, EMDR and "walk therapy" for those that would prefer to be out in nature, at the beach or elsewhere in the community for individual sessions (as Covid- appropriate.)
At the start of the covid-pandemic in 2020 RESTORATIVE COUNSELLING partnered up with RESTORATIVE JUSTICE of the Sunshine Coast to develop a group program that could offer wrap-around support and large volume services to clients in isolated communities.. RWP GROUPS have been offering low-barrier group therapy to clients from all socioeconomic backgrounds and are pleased to say we have NEVER, to date, turned away clients due to financial barriers.
We also seek to address gaps in care and offer transitional support to individuals returning to community after attending residential treatment programs for substance misuse or trauma. In addressing the lack of access to recovery aftercare services for people from remote communities, we hope to offer the encouragement and support needed to maintain positive change according to the client's goals.
Our Restorative Wellness Project (RWP Groups) are geared to assist people in healing complex trauma through a 6-9 month stabilization phase combination of weekly DBT Skills group therapy and individual counselling sessions / check-ins as needed.
We provide individual counselling for youth age 15 to adults 100+ and believe in the magic of intergenerational wisdom in our therapeutic circles.
